KIMBERLY HUGHES

Writing/Editing/Translation

I am a freelance writer based in Tokyo

covering human interest feature stories,

grassroots social movements, culture, arts/design, food/drink, and travel in Japan and beyond.

My articles and photographs have appeared in international publications including

Craftsmanship Magazine, Dwell, Lonely Planet and Sixty-Six, as well as numerous Japan-based publications including Asahi Weekly, Japan Times, Japan Today,  Kyoto Journal, The Mainichi, Metropolis, Tokyo Updates and Tokyo Weekender.

In addition to writing, I am also a Japanese to English translator, editor, interpreter,

and voice recording artist. I work across

a wide variety of fields for client projects, from corporate reports to creative advertising to academic essays.

Finally, I have taught English-language courses

to students at several universities across the

Tokyo metropolis focusing on creating

positive social change.

I am available for assignments, and I look forward to hearing from you to see how we might work together. Thank you so much for stopping by!

It seems that the more places I see and experience, the bigger I realize the world to be. Maybe that’s enlightenment enough; to know that there is no final resting place of the mind; no smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom…is realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.
